Antoine Griezmann put France ahead in the 27th minute after being set up by Blaise Matuidi. Olivier Giroud then doubled their lead six minutes later before Anton Saroka pulled one back on the stroke of half-time.

That proved to be the last goal of the game as Les Bleus booked their spot in Russia.

Netherlands 2-0 Sweden

The Netherlands fell short of making the World Cup finals despite a 2-0 win over Sweden.

Arjen Robben drew first blood for Holland with a 16th minute penalty before netting his second 24 minutes later.

However, the Netherlands had gone into the fixture needing a miraculous 7-0 win to survive. Instead, they slumped to third in Group A behind France and Sweden.

Portugal 2-0 Switzerland

Portugal booked their place in the World Cup by virtue of a 2-0 win over Switzerland.

A 41st minute Johan Djourou own goal sent Portugal into half-time ahead. André Silva then consolidated their lead with a 57th minute strike.

As a result, the European champions leapfrogged Switzerland and went top of Group B. Their opponents tonight will now have to qualify via the playoffs.

Belgium 4-0 Cyprus

Belgium rounded off their qualification campaign in style with a 4-0 win over Cyprus.

Eden Hazard opened the scoring in the 12th minute with what was the only goal of the first half. In the seventh minute after the break, they scored their second through Thorgan Hazard.

Eden Hazard all but sealed the game with a 63rd minute penalty before a Romelu Lukaku strike put the cherry on top 15 minutes later.

Yaya Toure has not played for Ivory Coast since the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, when he helped Ivory Coast to a penalty shootout victory over Ghana. However, the 34-year-is now planning to return to the international stage having seen opportunities at club level severely limited so far this season. “We must see [if he can play in January for Ivory Coast],” his agent Dimitry Seluk told Sky Sports News. “Maybe from March he will play. There have been many changes [in the squad]”. Ivory Coast, who failed to qualify for next year’s World Cup and suffered a first-round exit from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, will face Namibia, Zambia and Uganda in January before taking on Rwanda in March.
